This time, we were delighted to have a chat with Resham, a foreign-qualified lawyer from India, who has absolutely thrived on a commercial paralegal placement at Schroders, a top investment management organisation. Resham has in fact made such an incredible impression that her original placement has since been extended even further, and this has been the perfect opportunity to kickstart her UK legal career. Here’s what she has to say about working through Flex Legal…
Hi Resham! Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your background?
Hello! I am Resham Mehta, full-time lawyer, and part-time foodie and painter.I grew up in India, where I started my legal journey by completing the LLB at ILS Law College. I then came to the UK to study a Masters in International Intellectual Property Law at Brunel University. Due to the pandemic, I returned to India to pursue my dream of becoming a qualified lawyer. I have experience of working with both law firms and in-house legal teams in the areas of IP law, fashion and media law, corporate law, and contracts negotiation and drafting.
I came back to the UK in February and initially had no luck in finding a legal opportunity. It felt like I was sending off 100’s of applications, but not hearing anything back for months.
During my struggle to find something, I heard about Flex Legal and applied to the platform in April. Then only a month later I was placed within Schroders in-house legal team, a top investment management organisation. My role there has been extended since, and it’s all thanks to Flex Legal.
Could you tell us about your experience of working through Flex Legal?

Where are you currently working?
I am currently working as a commercial paralegal at Schoders PLC, where my role predominantly involves negotiating, and drafting NDA’s and other legal documents. I used to think that paralegal work was solely administrative, but since working with the team at Schroders I’ve been given a large amount of responsibility and involved in some key decisions throughout my time there. It’s been exactly the type of work I was looking for, and I’ve enjoyed the role so much that I have recently extended my original placement for another 3 months.What have you found most interesting about your recent role?
After working in law for 3 years in India, this is the exact role I was looking for to kick start my legal career again in the UK. It’s been great to get stuck in and given a challenge, rather than solely completing administrative tasks, and I’ve learnt a lot during my time there. I also really do feel that my opinions are valued by the whole team, which means a lot to me.What advice would you give to those looking to get into paralegal work?
