Case Studies
Sally-Ann O'Kane
Our Paralegal Spotlight is being cast again... this time in the direction of the incredible future trainee Amy Hopkins! After coming to us in July on the lookout for some valuable legal experience, Amy has flourished on an in-house placement at leading consumer insights platform, Zappi.
Take a read to see what Amy has to say about her Flexperience so far.
Hi Amy! Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your background?
Hi, I’m Amy. I studied Biomedical Sciences at the University of Manchester before converting to law. I completed my GDL online during the pandemic and secured a training contract with Osborne Clarke before completing my LPC in London this year. How did you first become interested in working in law?
You might not think it, but I first became interested in law after spending too much time working in a research lab! As much as I enjoyed my undergraduate degree, it was too theoretical and distant from real life and people for me, so I found myself becoming much more interested in the tangible commercial challenges that would arise from scientific breakthroughs, which sparked my interest in law. I went on to complete a mini-pupillage and a law firm vacation scheme which reinforced my interest in becoming a lawyer.Could you tell us about your experience of working through Flex Legal?
Flex Legal made finding a paralegal role very easy for me. Once my profile was set up I was contacted by Flex with different potential roles until I accepted one that suited me. Throughout the process Flex has been incredibly helpful and supportive and I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for legal work experience.“Throughout the process Flex has been incredibly helpful and supportive, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for legal work experience.”
- Amy Hopkins, Flex Paralegal
Where are you currently working?
I am currently working as a commercial paralegal at Zappi, a leading consumer insights platform that helps businesses transform their advertising and product innovations. I have mainly been assisting their in-house legal team with contract management, reviewing documents, and amending confidentiality agreements for new customers. What have you found most interesting about your recent role?
It has been very interesting to work as part of an in-house legal team. I have enjoyed working and learning from different people, both legal and non-legal, in a sector I previously had no connection with. In addition to the legal side, it has been really fun to be part of a tech company and experience the company’s fun, inclusive culture. What advice would you give to those looking to get into paralegal work?
Be curious and proactive. Ask questions, be open to trying all types of work and getting involved with different matters and always listen to any feedback you’re given. Also, take advantage of the breadth of experience that your supervisors and colleagues have, everyone has had a different journey into law, and they will likely have invaluable insight into the legal industry.“Amy has been a joy to work with and has become an indispensable member of the Zappi legal team. She has shown a keen willingness to learn and upskill her legal/technical ability, whilst undertaking any challenges with a friendly, approachable nature. We have enjoyed having Amy work with us! #Zappitobehere”
