Hi Tiffany! Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your background?
My name is Tiffany and I am a paralegal working at Tensar International Limited. After graduating from the University of East Anglia with a Business Management degree, I went back to Hong Kong to study a Juris Doctor degree in Law. During my time there, I also gained 5 years’ experience of working as a paralegal and contract manager. After graduation from my Juris Doctor degree, I have decided to pursue my career in law, in order to understand more about the work of a solicitor.How did you first become interested in working in law?
I became interested in working in law when I was completing my undergraduate degree with UEA. At that time, I took a lot of law modules and I became passionate about researching the law and writing argumentative essays on different topics. I also had a chance to participate in different discussion groups in relation to controversial legal topics, which sparked my interest with regards to learning more about the law.Could you tell us about your experience of working through Flex Legal?
Flex Legal is a very great platform which links candidate with employers. I found my current paralegal role through Flex and my consultant, Jennifer, is very caring and she called me at my first day of work to check if I was okay with my work, as well as various times throughout my placement. She acts as an excellent bridge of communication between me and my boss. Where are you currently working?
Thanks to Flex Legal, I am currently working at Tensar International Limited, a world-leading manufacturer and provider of ground stabilization and soil reinforcement solutions in Blackburn.What have you found most interesting about your recent role?
What I find most interesting about my current role at Tensar is that I have had a lot of opportunities to work with colleagues from different territories, from Europe to APAC and Africa; on a wide range of matters, including commercial contract review, corporate matters and setting up a new office in a new territory. This has been a very valuable experience for me because I understand more about the working culture of different countries and I can speak their languages whilst working with them.I have also reviewed various commercial contracts which I found challenging yet interesting at the same time. My boss, Christel, gave me a lot of opportunities to deal with different people inside and outside of the company, e.g. external legal counsel and internal stakeholders, which has highly improved my communication and interpersonal skills.
During my time at Tensar, I gave legal and compliance training to the China Team, which I really enjoyed doing because I created powerpoint slides in the local language which the China Team could understand, and also enhanced my knowledge on the company’s compliance policy at the same time. I’ve really enjoyed my time working at Tensar, and I have been given many opportunities to learn and grow.

What advice would you give to those looking to get into paralegal work?
Be proactive in asking questions at work. Don’t be shy! Working as a paralegal is not easy. You need to understand what the lawyers need to be able to assist them effectively. Therefore, understanding the whole matter and asking questions where necessary is key. Be proactive!Additional Resources:
