This time, we were delighted to have a chat with Anastasios, a bilingual paralegal with experience of working within the tech industry. After flourishing on a law firm placement through Flex, Anastasios is now thriving again at Summize, an innovative legal tech company. Here’s what he has to say about working through Flex Legal…
Hi Anastasios! Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your background?
Hi, I am Anastasios! I studied Law at the University of York and graduated in 2020. Before Flex, I worked in a variety of industries, ranging from tech to training. On the weekends I volunteer with the United World Colleges (UWC) to create short educational summer programmes to empower young people from all around the world.How did you first become interested in working in law?
For a year before starting with Flex Legal, I was working in the technology space. There I had the opportunity to engage with a lot of legal professionals, both in-house and from firms. What reignited my interest in law is the combination of factors that paralegals and lawyers have to consider when completing work for clients. To be able to provide the best solution, one has to be aware of much more than just the law. Having to constantly learn new things, adapt your mindset and incorporate outside knowledge to your work ensures that it is constantly interesting!Could you tell us about your experience of working through Flex Legal?
Finding a paralegal role through Flex Legal was incredibly easy and fast and the entire Flex Legal team is incredibly supportive, finding roles that correspond to exactly what you are looking for. Where are you currently working?
I am currently working at Summize, a game-changing Contract Lifecycle Management solution that improves the contract lifecycle of any business. Summize is in the legal technology space and working with them for the past three months has allowed me to combine my interest in technology and law.What have you found most interesting about your recent role?
Working for a legal tech startup has helped me improve my commercial awareness. Having the ability to see how all the different teams come together to create results for our clients is fascinating. It has allowed me to understand the inner workings of a business and how law fits into the picture in a way that I did not understand before.What advice would you give to those looking to get into paralegal work?
Don’t be afraid to suggest improvements as a paralegal! When you enter a team, you have a fresh set of eyes and you can really understand pressure points that others might be missing. Summize taught me of the importance of improvement, even if you consider it too small or insignificant.
