Curriculum Vitae

Legal work experience

Vacation Scheme

Dentons | Nov 20 - Dec 20

  • Prepared Conditions Precedent checklists, which involved listing documents required by the lender in each relevant loan contract. I also translated (English to Romanian) and proofread loan contracts for the purposes of ensuring consistency in the drafting. This allowed me to further my understanding of finance documents.
  • Assisted with drafting a Due Diligence Questionnaire for a £6.7m cross-border M&A transaction (share purchase), which involved considering the transaction as a whole, referring to precedent documents, and liaising with the attorney working on the matter. I also assisted with the preparation of the executive summary to the Due Diligence Report where I drafted the assumptions and qualifications section on the part of the legal team. I developed my understanding of the life cycle of a transaction and in particular, the role of contractual terms in allocating the risk between parties.
  • Assisted a partner in the preparation of a defence for a client accused of anti-competitive behaviour. I researched and reviewed the EU competition case law and prepared a note of my findings.
  • I reviewed a giveaway contract and made various amendments to include several relevant provisions that were omitted from the contract. For example, a provision from a legislative act requiring the contract to specify the nature and price of the goods forming part of the giveaway was missing and I had to incorporate it.
  • Drafted Powers of Attorney in relation to an authorisation for an employee of a company to represent the business in front of authorities, on behalf of the owner.
  • Drafted a legal update in relation to capital markets, titled “Liquidity stress testing”, which involved researching and summarising the ESMA Guidelines on liquidity stress testing in UCITS and AIFs. This update was circulated to clients of the Firm.

Litigation Paralegal

PGMBM | Jul 20 - Oct 20

I worked on the Mercedes emission scandal and EasyJet data breach cases, being the main point of contact for potential clients, and leading the pre-engagement client management.

  • I corresponded with clients and I was able to effectively communicate legal terms in plain language.
  • Contacted potential clients and advised them about their claims. I succinctly explained the process to them and answered their queries and I was able to sign up more than 1,000 clients to the group litigation action.
  • I became aware that certain clients had concerns and wished to withdraw their claims. I was intuitive and I contacted them swiftly to clarify the terms and the benefits of the claim. This resulted in the clients continuing with the action.

Adviser

Queen Mary University of London - Legal Advice Centre | Sep 19 - May 20

  • Attended training sessions on drafting, listening, interviewing, and communication skills, and was exposed to a wide range of practice areas including Commercial & Consumer, Employment, and Property Law.
  • Led various client cases under the supervision of a solicitor, which involved interviewing the clients, taking notes, understanding their needs, and researching their cases in order to provide them with a letter of advice while adhering to strict deadlines for each client.
  • Attended meetings with colleagues to discuss our cases, present our opinions, and collaborate in the structuring of our advice notes. I also gave suggestions and reviewed the work of others.

Semi-finalist

Aspiring Solicitors | Oct 19 - Dec 19

  • Prepared by researching various commercial concepts and reading business news.
  • In the semi-finals, I worked as part of a team and my role was to discuss various ways of raising finance for a company in the light of the current global issues, in front of a panel of partners from an international law firm.
  • I discussed the real-life case of an investment bank involved in a Russian money-laundering scheme and presented my opinions about how the bank might be affected as well as the impact of this case upon the law firm and my comments received positive feedback from the partners resulting in my team qualifying for the last assessment of the round.

Legal Intern

Slater & Gordon Lawyers | Nov 19 - Nov 19

  • Undertook research into Employment Law, summarised and simplified the information, then prepared factsheets that were distributed to the clients. The research centred on workplace discrimination, unfair and constructive dismissal.
  • Attended client meetings where I took notes, listened to the clients' concerns, and then discussed with the partners.
  • Reviewed settlement agreements and drafted advice on them. For example, in relation to post-employment restriction clauses that would have placed the client in a difficult position and could be used to negotiate a better settlement figure instead.

Legal Assistant

Dentons | Apr 18 - May 18

  • Was the first point of contact for clients from various backgrounds and with different personalities. Communicated with them clearly and professionally and managed to remain calm even under pressure and during busy hours.
  • Drafted legal advice letters to the clients under the supervision of a solicitor after doing research.
  • Organised the clinic, arranged folders in drawers, and set up the reception.

Other work experience

Chef & Receptionist

Hospitality Industry | May 18 - Jun 19

I worked as a receptionist and chef at a hotel and restaurant where I developed various interpersonal and soft skills.

As a chef:

  • Developed stamina by working 12-14-hour shifts, 6 days a week in restaurant cooking meals.
  • Communicated clearly with the front of house staff as well as with the kitchen staff and coordinated my work within the team effectively in order to deliver the best service, even during the weekends when the restaurant became particularly busy.
  • I had to work with numerous ingredients, recipes, and be careful about food allergies therefore attention to detail was a key skill that I strengthened throughout this job.

As a receptionist:

  • Ensured that clients were treated in a professional manner. I was able to engage with customers daily and to be the first point of call, representing the hotel.
  • Showed initiative by offering to solve different problems that occurred. For example, I managed to avoid a large number of complaints in a night when the electricity went off by going to fix the power cable because the maintenance team was not on site.
  • Completed reservation forms, sent emails to clients, updated the hotel's website, and booking system which required close attention to details and organization.

Legal Translator

Romanian Embassy in UK | Jan 19 - Mar 19

  • Translated (Romanian to English) and proofread commercial leases that were complex and written in small print.
  • Wrote the daily newspaper of the Embassy with a summary of the most important political and economic news, which was sent to the Ambassador and other diplomatic personnel.
