Curriculum Vitae

Legal work experience

Paralegal (Corporate Finance)

Moixa Ltd | Feb 20 - Mar 20

  • Managed shareholder correspondence during a significant investment round for the future growth of the business.
  • Handled highly sensitive shareholder personal data, ensuring all GDPR requirements were addressed.
  • Gave internal guidance on the application of new Environmental legislation to the company’s operations.
  • Created internal memorandums to improve company-wide understanding of legislation that may impact different sectors of the business.

My experience at Moixa has drastically expanded my knowledge of corporate finance and, in particular, the high-pressure nature of securing funding for limited companies. The start-up environment has taught me to adapt my legal skills in order to support different arms of the business, as well as providing a unique insight into a rapidly growing industry and the role law firms will have to play within it.

Paralegal

Reach Plc. | Oct 19 - Dec 19

  • Contributed to the successful defence of the company during high profile litigation through my extensive research into privacy laws.
  • Significantly reduced the company’s legal costs by negotiating disclosure requirements with opposing counsel.
  • Ensured the company met all its disclosure obligations by collating large volumes of articles and data, using a number different archives and resources in the process.
  • Assisted external lawyers at RPC through providing meticulous public-domain searches and creating timelines for a number of claimants, providing a defence against a number of claims.

This has improved my understanding of the relationship in-house counsel has with other facets of a business, and how effective communication of potential legal problems has a tangible impact on the growth of the company. On top of this my role has increased my dexterity in using claim management systems, and the different dispute resolution processes.

Intern for the Hon. Judge Joseph Migliozzi Jr

4th Judicial Circuit Court of Virginia, US | Jul 19 - Sep 19

  • Contributed in both research and writing to an article about the contentious immigration issues surrounding the representation of non-citizens, and claims of ineffective assistance of counsel.
  • Presented a research project into the reinstatement of the federal death penalty to the full bench of judges at the Circuit Court, conveying its impact on them and legal system as a whole.
  • Created a memorandum to improve the provision of treatment for mentally ill inmates in Virginia and across the US. Gained support for the proposals by working with a number of different judges, the Sherriff and different members of the police department, eventually taking them to Supreme Court of Virginia where they are still in development and review.
  • Provided support for an attorney on an armed-robbery federal court case, personally liaising with the client explaining the importance of his cooperation in the mitigation process.
  • Worked within the team of clerks at the court, assisting with a number of clerical/paralegal tasks including opinion writing, legal research, document collation and assisting the public.
  • Spoke at a National Business Institute talk on civil litigation, drawing out the differences between the US and UK systems.

Working as an intern at the Circuit court of Virginia has expanded my knowledge in a diverse range of legal fields and given me an insight into both civil and commercial litigation. The internship highlighted the importance of effective communication both within my team of clerks as well also developing trust with clients under challenging circumstances. Further it has developed my advocacy skills and my ability to create convincing legal arguments that are well supported by evidence and authority.

Volunteer/Event Coordinator

Warwick Death Penalty Project | Oct 18 - Jul 19

  • Contributed to the appeal process of a number of defendants facing the death penalty by investigating conditions for mitigation and conducting background research.
  • Strengthened the projects relationship with US capital defence offices by ensuring mine and other members of the project’s work was completed to a high specification and within the deadline.
  • Received Amicus (a non-profit organization that provides representation for those facing the death penalty) training in 2018 and 2019, and continue to support the charity’s work.
  • Organized and facilitated speakers from the US to visit and speak to the project.

Legal Intern

Reach Plc. | Jul 18 - Jul 18

  • Assisted in the day-to-day administration of the department through minute taking, document bundling and corresponding with the public.
  • Undertook a number of due diligence tasks in anticipation of a high-stakes merger of a large media corporation.
  • Aided fee-earners through research into unknown points of law, delivering concise advise within a short time frame.

My internship at Reach plc. furthered my interest into the law of defamation and saw me markedly improve my ability to conduct due-diligence. Further, it emphasized how successful firm-client relationships are created through punctuality and camaraderie. I received an offer to return as a paralegal following my performance on the internship.

Legal Placement

DWF LLP | Dec 17 - Dec 17

  • Played a key role in the defence of a client in a claim for breach of contract, finding a number of different precedents and completing case summaries.
  • Drafted and reviewed contract terms for a charity out-reach programme for a Premiership football club, flagging up potential issues.
  • Assisted trainee lawyers in fulfilling their pro-bono obligations by contacting a number of local charities, creating future relationships between the firm and the community.

My time at DWF has developed my ability to deal with large amounts of documents and data, as well as my commercial awareness and the importance of strong firm-to-business relationships. It has also strengthened my ability to work as a team within a legal context, as well as gaining an understanding for the wider role that law firms play in regards to pro-bono work.

Legal Intern

Serco Ltd. | Aug 17 - Aug 17

  • Heavily involved in the preparation of a defence for a corporate manslaughter claim against the company, drafting and collating documents for Chambers and drafting witness statements.
  • Worked with current and former prisoners at HMP Pentonville though the companies rehabilitation programme, helping with CV and employability skills.
  • Invited to participate in the companies yearly results announcement at JP Morgan.

Working for such a diverse company has helped to improve my practical understanding of how internal legal teams operate within a business, as well as developing my basic legal skills. Due to Serco’s varied range of contracts, I gained an awareness of the difficulties faced both in funding and providing the different stages of the justice system.

Worked part-time for Mange Bien from the age of thirteen, during this time I have progressed from general kitchen assistant, to catering for large parties in excess of 250 people, and managed smaller teams of up to five people on my own in my capacity as Chef de Partie.
