Case Studies
Ben Harris
The fantastic Evan Milton is our Lawyer of the Month for February 2021! Evan is a multi-talented and impressive individual, who works flexibly as a lawyer around his acting commitments, and has been working for NJF Capital through Flex for some time now. We caught up with him to ask him some questions about himself and his work through Flex!
Could you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
After reading English at UCL, I completed the GDL and LPC. Following my training contract at SJ Berwin LLP, I spent two years in the commercial disputes team at Reed Smith LLP. I now balance my legal work with acting commitments, with recent work at the National Theatre and The Old Vic, as well as on BBC and Netflix dramas. Why did you choose to transition into interim lawyer work?
Flexibility. I wanted to be able to pick and choose when and where and for how long I worked. For some people, the security and stability of working within one team at one firm for an indefinite period of time is an essential feature of working life. For me, the prospect of working within different teams in different businesses on varied projects is exciting and fulfilling - I never know what the next 12 months have in store. How are you finding your current placement with NJF Capital?
My time at NJF Capital has so far been exciting and varied - both enjoyable and demanding in equal measure. The team are friendly and collegiate, and it’s been an excellent way to get experience of an array of unique and complex legal issues that face in-house teams on a daily basis; something that you rarely come into close contact with in private practice.Could you tell us about your experience working through Flex Legal?
Working through Flex Legal has been great. The team are lovely and the process is transparent and efficient. You really get the impression that the team at Flex have their lawyers’ and paralegals’ best interests at heart, while always providing an excellent service to their clients. What advice would you give to aspiring solicitors currently working as paralegals through Flex Legal?
With your paralegal work, be enthusiastic and pro-active: make your work product as thorough, useful and reliable as possible and you will become an indispensable part of the team. When looking for training contacts - do your research and be honest with yourself about what you really want out of your training. Don’t just consider the big name firms - the training and expertise available at some smaller boutique firms is second to none.Additional Resources:
