This morning Sophie Gould, Head of Learning and Development at F-LEX, chaired a fantastic virtual discussion in collaboration with LexisNexis UK and Radius Law between in-house counsels on the prominent issues surrounding COVID-19 and the legal industry.
During the discussion, Sandra Martins clarified the latest government guidance on furloughing employees, raising the interesting point that ex-employees may be rehired and furloughed, provided they were working for their employer on or after 28th February. Radius Law founder Iain Larkins also shared his thoughts on the Coronavirus Act 2020, consumer contracts, and the industry's attitude towards force majeure clauses. Further questions covered the CBIL Scheme, the Land Registry's approach towards e-vetting signatures, and the government's retrospective suspension of wrongful trading laws relating to the mitigation of company debts. Louisa Van Eeden, Head of Legal Marketing at LexisNexis UK, provided some great resources to support the inhouse community. These include a COVID-19 'toolkit', Pandemic Risk Management Guide, and the latest updates and analysis of current events via the Lexis blog. Generously, these have been provided for free to event attendees.
Further discussions will be hosted via Zoom every Tuesday for the next three weeks (14th, 21st and 28th April) from 10:15am - 11am. These are a great opportunity to share professional insights and strategies on how best to manage these unprecedented times, so please do get involved!
